More Information - Finding the Perfect Area Rug

One of the most inexpensive ways to add that personal touch to your home decorating is to purchase the perfect area rug to complement your entrances, halls and/or rooms.  There are unlimited choices in style, pattern, color, size, and shapes available to meet all your needs.  If you have your heart set on a really bizarre size or shape, you may want to consider having a rug custom made.

Adding area rugs to any room or area in your home can spice up a drab interior, change the decor, add a focal point or hide a worn spot creating warmth, comfort and special effects.

If your room has no patterns in the fabric, drapes, upholstery or wallpaper, life is simple.  Richly patterned rugs can make a dramatic statement and you can pick from anything that appeals to you.

When the color scheme is muted, you can add rugs with brilliant and wild contracting colors.  Hanging rugs on the wall can add an exciting and even ethnic accent to any room. 

If you have a room with intricate patterns in the upholstery or drapes, it is a good idea to choose rugs in solid shades and tones of the same color.  Or you could pick a pattern that coordinates well, keeping with something simple with subdued colors. 

If your floors look warn or boring, you can add a big area rug or runners right over the top of the carpet.  An interesting feature or focal pattern in the middle of a rug can be very attractive if you are trying to cover a large open area. 

If you plan on having furniture covering the rug, use rugs with repeating patterns or strong borders to frame your space.

When there are already several colors in the room, you may want to select a rug that has just one or two of these colors.  Otherwise select muted tones or subdued earth colors like beige, brown, rust and green.

When there is going to be more than one rug in a room, keep these thoughts in mind.  You should purchase rugs of different shapes such as a square with an oval.  If you prefer the same shape, it is wise to buy different sizes, making sure the patterns or colors do not clash.

It is easier to shop online for your area rugs than running around to all the stores in your town looking for that "perfect" rug.
